Downieville was named one of 20 Best Small Towns in the west by Sunset Magazine in the latest March 2009 issue. This puts Downieville in a very select group which includes Capitola, Del Mar, Palo Alto, Ojai and Truckee in California and Moab, UT. Boulder, CO. and Coirvalis, OR. In these "places that inspire daydreams" Downieville is the smallest town by far.
